Product Selection and Checkout

Titles searched on the SPIN 2 System are in an Adobe Acrobat PDF file format. You must have the Adobe Reader, a free download available from Adobe at http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html, in order to view, print or save these files.

Product Selection

Once a user has selected a search option, entered the required search criteria and initiated a search, the results are displayed in a search summary. The following is a typical title search; from the search summary return, several new options as defined below, are now available to the user.

Note: All products are selected and added to the shopping cart in a similar manner.

Map Search

Allows users to view the selected title parcel(s) on the Map of Alberta.

The Map of Alberta is returned with the selected title parcel(s) highlighted (users receive a message if the search exceeds the maximum number of parcels that can be displayed), use the Go back to search page. to return to your original search.

Printable List

Clicking the Printable List button (optional) creates a quick reference list of search summary results for your convenience. The list can be used for reference purposes where a search exceeds the maximum of 250 cart returns and you are required to refine the size of your search.

To add titles or other products to your shopping cart check the Add to Cart box beside the result(s) you need to purchase then click the Add to Cart button or use the Add all Current Titles, Add all Current Historical Titles, Add all Cancelled Titles or the Click here to add all features (there is a limit of 250 items per shopping cart for users associated to an ALTA Account and a maximum shopping cart limit of $100.00 for credit card users).

Note: Search Cancelled Titles to see previous registered owner information. Current Historical Titles contain Current Title information and historical document registration information (e.g., discharges, transfer of instruments, etc.) if any. Before adding a Current Historical Title to your shopping cart, use the Registered Document Search icon to view all registered documents affecting the selected title; if there are no registered documents or discharge type documents or transfer of instrument documents registered against the title, the end result is similar to the Current Title.

Selecting the View Full Title feature (not available to guests or registered guests purchasing by credit card) returns the following window advising the user of the billing charge for this feature and giving the user the opportunity to continue or to cancel the request. This feature benefits users if they need the product immediately and still have more searches to do without having to go through the complete checkout process in order to receive the product.

If the user continues with the View Full Title feature, the Certified Title is immediately returned in an Adobe Acrobat PDF File format.

Selecting the Preview Title feature returns a summary view of the title allowing users to determine the title selected is correct (due to Land Titles Personal Privacy Policies, registered owner information is not available until the title has been purchased), close the Preview window and continue.

Once you have added the selected item to your shopping cart, the Add to Cart box for that item "greys out", and you will not be able to select it again. Proceed to your next search or if you are ready to checkout click Shopping Cart on the main SPIN 2 Menu bar.

Shopping Cart - Summary

Note: It is the responsibility of the user to review the contents of their shopping cart before checking out.

Users should check the Product Type, Quantity, Total Overall Price and Delivery Method before continuing to Checkout. If the contents of the shopping cart do not agree with your search (e.g., you searched 1 title but have 2 in your shopping cart) or you have inadvertently added other unwanted items to your shopping cart they can be removed at this time.

If you are uncertain of an item added to the shopping cart, the Details icon allows users to confirm the selected product (e.g., for a current title, the title number is displayed, click the title number to see the Preview Title screen). To remove items from the shopping cart, check the Remove from Cart box (Details screen) or the Remove box and click Update (Details screen) or Remove Checked, alternatively, you may click the Remove All button to clear all items from the shopping cart at once.

Products have different delivery methods based on the type of user (registered or guest), the product type and the product size. The default delivery selected by SPIN 2 is download, use the drop down menu to change from download to email, fax, mail, etc., or to change the product type (e.g., to request a paper copy of a survey plan by mail, callbox or courier). When using download, all users must download products before leaving the Delivery Status screen. For registered users, delivery information will be auto-populated from their SPIN 2 Profile.
Note: For guests ordering title searches, the default delivery method selected by SPIN 2 is email (use the drop down menu to select delivery by Fax). When entering delivery information, ensure that it is correct before submitting the request.

The maximum file size for email delivery of survey plans, registered documents and Director of Surveys products is 6500 kb (6.5 megabytes). In the event that a request exceeds this limit, the option for email delivery is removed from the shopping cart, choose download or use the Details icon to remove items and order separately.

Checkout

Clicking Checkout returns the Checkout Review Information screen. If you did not review the contents of your shopping cart earlier, do a final review of the Product Type, Quantity, Total Cost, Delivery and Account information; once the Finalize Checkout button is pressed the order CANNOT be cancelled and the total cost is charged to your account.

ALTA account users may also enter a Customer File Number (maximum 12-characters) or add Customer Comments (maximum of 60-characters). The Customer File Number will appear on Current Title or Current Historical Title Certificates and Printable Receipt; Customer Comments will only appear on the Printable Receipt. While the Customer File Number is optional, it is recommended for account reconciliation purposes. The following special characters are not acceptable in the Customer File Number field or in the Customer Comments field:  (~), (!), (@), (#), ($), (%), or (^).

Note:  It is not necessary to use the Compress Files (ZIP) feature when ordering from SPIN 2, all files are compressed as far as they can be for delivery by Email or HTTPDownload. This feature is intended for users who typically order in excess of 10 or more of the same product types for Email or HTTPdownload delivery and who have a ZIP utility installed, e.g., WINZIP or alternate. Users who select this feature and do NOT have a ZIP utility installed will not be able to open their products.

Some service providers may remove zipped files from email delivery, this is not a SPIN 2 issue, speak to your service provider before ordering to determine their policy regarding zipped file delivery.

Delivery

Once the Finalize Checkout button has been pressed, the Delivery - Status screen returns the status of the order (e.g., produced, delivered, in progress, etc.).

Click the Printable Receipt button to generate your SPIN 2 Receipt.

To open, print and save HTTPDownload items, click the product hyperlink.

Note: Products can also be saved by right clicking the hyperlink to "Save Target As ". It is important to remember where you save these files.
